Suspected banana thief hacks 62-year-old farmer to d3ath in Ekiti

A 62-year old farmer, Mr. Oladunjoye Adeniyi, has been k!lled by a suspected thief at the boundary area between Okemesi and Ikoro in Ekiti State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026, prompted a distress call that drew the attention of security operatives to the scene.

Preliminary accounts suggested the altercation began when the suspect allegedly entered the victim’s farm to steal bananas.

The disagreement was said to have escalated, resulting in the farmer being attacked with a machete and k!lled at the scene.

Security operatives, including personnel from Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps, the police, and local security teams, reportedly responded swiftly to the distress call and the suspect was subsequently arrested by the operatives of the Ijero Police Command for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, the Provost Marshal of the Western Nigeria Security Network,(Amotekun Corps), SC Sunday Oladipo, disclosed that the suspect involved in the attack is male, noting that further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
