General Lucky Irabor (rtd), former Chief of Defence Staff, has stated that there is only one full General in the Nigerian Armed Forces today and that person is the Chief of Defence Staff.…....
In an interview with NTA, Irabor stated that below the Chief of Defence Staff are the service chiefs, who hold the rank of Lieutenant General or its equivalent in other branches of the armed forces.
Gen Irabor said there are also Major Generals and then Brigadier Generals. He added that it is important for people to understand the proper military ranking system.
In General Irabor’s words: “Today there is only one General in the armed forces. That General is the Chief of Defence Staff. But you also have 3 Lieutenant Generals and equivalent who are the service chiefs. Then you have Major Generals, then you have Brigadier Generals. So let us get it right”.
