Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina As New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Professor Segun Aina as the incoming Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), positioning him to succeed Professor Ishaq Oloyede when his tenure concludes on July 31, 2026.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the appointment is part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education sector through digital innovation, institutional reform, and improved examination processes.

Professor Aina is a Computer Engineering scholar at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with extensive experience in digital systems, national examination frameworks, and public sector reform initiatives.

He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

The Presidency noted that Aina brings over 15 years of advisory experience, having worked with both federal and state governments on digital transformation, systems design, and institutional improvement.

He has also consulted for examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), contributing to the development of ICT infrastructure and examination integrity systems.

Professor Aina is affiliated with several professional bodies, such as the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The Presidency expressed confidence in his appointment, describing him as a young but highly accomplished academic and systems expert with deep experience in education technology and public-sector reform.

The statement included the following remarks:

“Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform.”

“He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.”

“He is also a member of professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.”

President Tinubu further expressed optimism that the new JAMB Registrar would build on the achievements of the outgoing leadership under Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board, to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,” the statement added.
