Tanimu Turaki, a prominent factional leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), arrived at the Supreme Court today ahead of the hearing in a leadership dispute case. The case seeks to overturn a Court of Appeal ruling that previously nullified a party exercise, which was deemed to have breached an existing court order.

The Supreme Court case, marked SC/CV/166/2026, was scheduled for 2 pm, alongside another appeal involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), numbered SC/CV/180/2026.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court on Wednesday restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising ADC congresses conducted under the leadership of David Mark, pending the resolution of internal party disputes.

INEC had earlier fixed May 10 as the deadline for political parties to submit their membership registers.

The commission also announced that the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2027, while Governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027.

According to the timetable, party primaries and the resolution of related disputes will take place between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

Campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to begin on August 19, 2026, while those for Governorship and State Assembly elections will commence on September 9, 2026.
