Two jailed for illegal refuse dumping in Lagos

The Lagos State Government has secured the conviction of two persons for indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

According to him, the defendants, Ibrahim Kashua and Kareem Sodiq, were arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Bolade Oshodi on May 18, 2026.

Wahab wrote, “Two defendants were arraigned before the magistrate court sitting at Bolade Oshodi on 18th May, 2026, for indiscriminate dumping of refuse. They pleaded guilty and were convicted and sentenced to three months in prison.”

The development follows repeated warnings by the Lagos State Government against indiscriminate waste disposal and environmental violations.

NGBREAKINGNEWS had earlier reported that the state government warned that offenders risk a N250,000 fine or up to three months imprisonment, while over 4,000 persons had also been prosecuted for illegal refuse dumping across the state.
