According to a report by Daily Post published on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged the South-East region to strongly support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that continued political alignment could be important for sustaining federal infrastructure projects in the region.…....
Umahi made the remarks during an inspection tour of ongoing federal road and bridge projects in Ebonyi State, where he praised what he described as unprecedented infrastructure development under the current administration.
The minister highlighted several major projects, including the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja Superhighway, which he said has recorded significant progress. According to him, the project includes reinforced concrete pavement and solar-powered streetlights, while approximately half of the required funding has already been released by the Federal Government.
Umahi further revealed that additional sections of the highway corridor extending through several states are valued at hundreds of billions of naira. He stated that efforts are ongoing to secure approvals for more phases of construction as the government seeks to expand the project.
According to the minister, the Tinubu administration remains determined to complete both inherited and newly approved infrastructure projects despite economic and funding challenges. He added that contractors handling federal projects are being assured of payment as work continues across the country.
Umahi argued that the South-East has received significant federal attention under the current administration and urged political leaders and communities within the region to reciprocate through stronger political support for the President.
He also encouraged regional stakeholders to openly promote the achievements of the Federal Government and communicate ongoing development efforts to citizens across the South-East.
The minister stated that his appointment as Minister of Works, alongside the spread of infrastructure projects within the region, demonstrates what he described as renewed integration of the South-East into national development planning.
Umahi expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress would secure strong support in Ebonyi State during the 2027 elections, insisting that sustained political cooperation would help guarantee continued federal investment and infrastructure development in the region.
