Parents flocked to the school compound early Thursday morning, hoping to check and confirm the safety of their daughters.
The fire broke out at around 2 am on Thursday, May 28, in the school dormitory while students were still asleep.
At least 16 students from the school have been confirmed dead.
Utumishi Girls Academy parent breaks down in tears
A video captured a devastated mother hysterically crying and asking for her daughter. She could not hide her pain as onlookers and security officers tried to hold her back.
She paced around the compound, screaming and asking questions, noting that there was a need for tighter security measures in schools.
As she walked, the police present tried to hold her back, but parents and guardians at the school asked them to let her be.

She kept walking with no particular direction, showing how deeply the inferno had affected her.
