Desmond Elliot has raised concerns over what he describes as intimidation within the Surulere political space, making the remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.…....
According to him, the situation has become increasingly tense, especially for individuals who are perceived to have strong grassroots support in the area.
Speaking during the interview, he alleged that some individuals are deliberately creating an atmosphere of pressure and fear in the constituency. He stressed that such conduct undermines democratic engagement and should not be encouraged in any political environment where fairness and free participation are expected. His comments appeared to reflect frustration over the nature of political interactions currently unfolding in Surulere.
In his words, he stated: “We are being intimidated in Surulere, if you know you are popular and on ground, do not intimidate the people”. The remark suggests his belief that political strength or popularity should not translate into coercive behaviour or attempts to suppress others within the community.
