“We fear no one” – El-Rufai’s son breaks silence over father’s detention

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has broken his silence over the continuous detention of his father.

Speaking to journalists, the politician’s son stated that the El-Rufai family fears no one, while reacting to reports that his father remains in detention despite allegedly being granted bail.

“We, the El-Rufais, fear no one and nothing,” he stated.

Mohammed warned that if anything happens to his father, those allegedly responsible for his continued detention will be held accountable and should be the ones worried about the consequences.

He also suggested that the family would not remain silent over the situation, insisting that intimidation or pressure would not make the El-Rufais back down.

“If anything happens to my father, Nasir El-Rufai, those behind his continued detention despite being granted bail should be the ones living in fear,” he added.

El-Rufai was reportedly first arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, 2026, after honoring an invitation over alleged corruption and money laundering linked to his time in office.

Reports stated that the allegations involved the alleged diversion of N432bn and abuse of office during his administration as Kaduna State governor.

After being granted bail by the EFCC on February 18, 2026, he was reportedly re-arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over ongoing investigations.

He also later faced separate allegations from the Department of State Services (DSS) related to alleged unlawful interception of communications and cybercrime offences.
