Enugu Man Beaten Over Alleged ₦2m Theft May Be Innocent, Says Harrison Gwamnishu

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, has waded into the case of a man identified as Ekene Agala, who was beaten to a stupor by a mob and security operatives over alleged N2m theft.

The incident occurred in Enugu State contrary to initial social media reports.

A viral video shows the man with severely swollen face, sparking outrage and condemnation on social media.

In the video, Ogala insisted on his innocence and even swore on the graves of his parents.

He urged his accusers to produce the CCTV footage which allegedly captured him stealing the money.

Sharing a before and after photos of Agala on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Gwamnishu said emerging facts indicate that Ogala is innocent.

He described the incident as a painful reminder of why people shouldn’t be too quick to jump to judgment.

According to Gwamnishu, the woman who made the accusation said a CCTV footage of the theft doesn’t exist, claiming that it was a little child who allegedly saw Ekene taking the money.
