Popular Nollywood actor and lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has raised alarm over the withdrawal of his security aides ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary election in Lagos.
Desmond, who represents Surulere I constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the allegation in a viral video circulated on social media on Tuesday, barely hours before the APC primary scheduled for May 20, 2026.
The lawmaker accused some party leaders and local government officials of allegedly intimidating members of the party and forcing them to support another aspirant in the primary contest.
According to him, several individuals believed to be loyal to him have reportedly been removed from their positions within the local government structure because of their political alignment.
“Intimidation, coercion, twisting and forcing people to follow their own candidate is what is happening today in Surulere. Telling them they will not be beneficiaries of some empowerment,” he said.
Desmond further claimed that his security details were withdrawn without explanation shortly before the exercise.
“We have been intimidated so much that a lot of people have been fired from the local government because they follow me. My security personnel were also taken away from me yesterday. I’m now left alone to myself. What have I done?” he lamented.
The development comes amid growing political tension within the Lagos APC ahead of the state assembly primaries.
The actor-turned-politician has recently faced political pressure following reports of a fallout with key figures in the party hierarchy. His relationship with Femi Gbajabiamila reportedly became strained after his alleged involvement in moves to impeach Mudashiru Obasa in 2025.
Gbajabiamila, who currently serves as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, had publicly withdrawn his support for the Surulere lawmaker over the incident.
In an apparent move to mend fences, Desmond later apologised during an appearance on TVC’s programme, “Your View,” where he addressed the controversy surrounding the failed attempt to remove Obasa as Speaker.
Desmond Elliot is currently serving his fourth term in the Lagos Assembly after first emerging as a lawmaker in 2015 under the platform of the APC.
