So as to keep Baena’s spirit up and to pass the time during his recovery, Russell began to discuss film script ideas with him. Among their four completed scripts, the comedy film I Heart Huckabees was released in 2004.

Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County medical examiner determined that the cause of death was suicide by hanging. Baena was 47 years old. The medical examiner’s report also noted that Baena had no history of previous suicide attempts.
