During the 2026 National Prayer Breakfast Women’s Convocation, the First Lady shared a testimony about a childless woman from Bungoma who successfully gave birth to twin girls after receiving prayers at a 2012 women’s meeting.

The story sparked a lively online debate among Kenyans, with some celebrating the miracle and others expressing scepticism about the continent’s heavy reliance on prayer over economic solutions.

In an exclusive interview with NGBREAKINGNEWS‘s Amondi Aroko, Nekesa narrated the turn of events from the first time she met Rachel in 2012 as she confirmed the validity of the statements.

“I had a problem with having children, I got married, I gave birth to five children, and they all died. I got divorced. I remarried again in 2017. But before I got remarried, in 2012, after the elections and the president had been installed, there was a women’s empowerment programme in Bungoma, which I attended together with my sister, my cousin and the current first lady of Bungoma county, Mama Margaret Lusaka. The guest speaker was Mama Rachel Ruto and after her session, she called for any woman who is struggling with getting a child,” she said.

According to Nekesa, she ran to the front to be prayed for and was the only person who went for that particular prayer.

“I was in a relationship, and I got married in 2017. Then God blessed me with twin girls. I had not met Mama Rachel again until this Easter, when I went home with my children for the holiday in Bungoma. On our way back, we stopped somewhere to get snacks for my children. We did not know that the premises we were stepping on belonged to the President,” she added.

Nekesa narrated that the President was around and there was tight security around the area, so she got into the supermarket.

She then asked the teller why everybody was looking at them like they were suspects, and was told that Ruto and his family were around, and movement was restricted.

The trained journalist saw the President in a meeting, and his wife, Rachel, was sitting at a different table with her son, George Ruto.

She quickly dashed to her and knelt while thanking her, leaving the first lady wondering why she was being appreciated.

Rachel then asked her to give George her number, but since then, she has been trying to get in touch with them with no success.

“I came forward to say it was me because of the backlash that was going on on social media. People were saying she was lying and that I had been paid. I have not been paid by anyone. I called George, but he did not pick up, and I sent him a message to help me get an appointment with his mum. I want to bless her as a parent, and I want her to bless my children,” she added.

Nekesa has fostered 30 kids, and she also revealed that her purpose also led to the end of her second marriage.
