PDP faction names Goodluck Jonathan presidential candidate for 2027 election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Kabiru Turaki has announced former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Jonathan’s nomination was ratified on Saturday during a special national convention held at the party’s office in Area 10, Garki District, Abuja, despite his absence from the event.

His certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi, a member of the house of representatives from Bayelsa State.

The faction had initially planned to hold the convention at the A-Class Park and Event Centre, but the venue was later changed after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) directed event centres to only engage with political parties recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP faction aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is the faction recognised by the electoral umpire.

On Saturday morning, police officers reportedly blocked roads leading to the original venue, forcing organisers to relocate the convention to another location within Area 10.

Party officials later confirmed that the event proceeded at the new venue, while noting that a formal presentation of the party flag to Jonathan would be announced later.

The development marks a significant move within the faction as it positions itself ahead of the 2027 presidential election cycle.
