Nigerian X (formerly Twitter) user Samuel Ademoye Adeyeye, popularly known as Swanky, has reportedly been sentenced to two years imprisonment after making disturbing comments about the daughter of Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold.…....

According to reports, the social media troll was found guilty after allegedly spreading false and malicious information concerning Adekunle Gold and his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Deja.

In a viral post shared on X, Swanky falsely claimed that the celebrity couple had lost their six-year-old daughter to a rare illness known as Canavan disease.

“Adekunle Gold just lost his daughter Deja at a tender age of 6. Reports have it that she lost her life to a rare disease called Canavan disease. May her perfect, gentle soul rest in peace”.

Following his malicious tweet, he was taken to court and pleaded guilty to spreading misinformation about the couple’s daughter.

Reports claim that the court found him guilty after he admitted to his deeds, leading to his conviction and sentencing.

The controversy surrounding Nigerian X user Samuel Ademoye Adeyeye, popularly known as Swanky, has continued to generate reactions online following reports of his alleged imprisonment over defamatory social media posts.

Beyond the false claims involving the daughter of Adekunle Gold and Simi, the controversial X user had also allegedly made several damaging accusations against Nigerian celebrities and public figures.

Among the claims attributed to him were allegations that Ayra Starr and her mother were involved in pornography, while music executive Don Jazzy was falsely accused of being the biological father of Tiwa Savage’s son.

He also allegedly claimed that billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke was facing deportation over fraud-related issues, while accusing rapper Olamide of being romantically involved with singer Lyta.

Actress Bimbo Ademoye was also targeted with allegations concerning her personal life.

The development has once again brought attention to the increasing cases of cyberbullying, defamation, and false accusations on social media platforms.

A few weeks ago, former Big Brother Naija housemate Venita Akpofure threatened legal action against an X user who accused her of moving from one man to another. She demanded evidence to support the allegation and warned the user to prepare for legal consequences over defamation and slander.

Similarly, actress Eniola Badmus reacted strongly to allegations that she allegedly linked young women to politicians. She denied the accusations and vowed to involve the authorities, making it clear that she would not tolerate defamatory statements.

Last year, singer Paul Okoye also threatened legal action against a woman who accused him of cheating on his ex-wife, Anita Okoye, with a housemaid. Reports later emerged online claiming the woman had been sentenced after allegedly making false rape accusations against the singer, although Paul later dismissed the reports as false.

In another high-profile case, actress Mercy Johnson and her husband, Prince Odi Okojie, reportedly arrested TikTok creator Eedie Bliss for spreading unverified claims about their family.

The content creator had accused Mercy Johnson of allegedly being involved in circumstances surrounding the miscarriage of her husband’s alleged pregnant mistress.

After Eedie Bliss regained her freedom, Mercy Johnson disclosed that she withdrew the charges out of respect for certain individuals who intervened. She also appealed to social media users to stop dragging her family into controversies, noting that the reports were affecting her children.

Likewise, in 2023, a TikToker identified as Ego was sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos after accusing Eniola Badmus of acting as a professional pimp for politicians across Nigeria.
