Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Yobe State have declared support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The political move was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Damaturu on Saturday, where party leaders and members from the 17 local government areas of the state agreed to align with the APC.
Speaking at the meeting, Yobe ADC Chairman, Prof. Muhammad Jawa, said the decision followed extensive consultations among party stakeholders across the state.
Jawa, who also serves as the Founder and National Coordinator of the Arewa Strategic Implementation Group for Atiku (ASIGA), said members unanimously requested that he lead the transition into the APC.
“I am pleased to acknowledge and accept your call for strategic political alignment with the APC,” he stated during the gathering.
He explained that the decision was taken in the interest of political stability, unity and continued development in Yobe State and the country at large.
According to him, members of the movement would begin peaceful consultations and engagements aimed at supporting the APC-led administration and the political direction of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the next election cycle.
Jawa also praised Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for his efforts in maintaining peace and driving development across the state. He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, youth empowerment programmes and inclusive governance as some of the achievements encouraging the political alignment.
The ADC chairman further commended the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, for his role in sustaining political harmony and strengthening unity within the state.
He also expressed support for Baba Malam Wali, describing him as the preferred successor in the build-up to the 2027 governorship race in Yobe State.
Jawa urged members and supporters involved in the transition process to remain calm, united and law-abiding, stressing the need for peaceful political engagement.
Earlier in his remarks, Abubakar Garzali, State Leader of Yobe ADC United across the 17 local government areas, said party stakeholders agreed that joining forces with the APC would help strengthen political stability and ensure continuity in governance.
Garzali noted that Prof. Jawa played a major role in building and coordinating the ADC structure in Yobe during the 2023 political activities in the state.
He said members believed the alignment would create a stronger political front capable of supporting development and unity in Yobe.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Yobe State Coordinator of ASIGA said members of the group had resolved to support President Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda through the planned alliance with the APC.
According to the coordinator, the decision reflected the collective position of stakeholders and members of the movement across the state.
