The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that President Bola Tinubu has effectively ended the marginalisation of the South-East through massive infrastructure development across the region.
Yilwatda stated this on Monday during a rally organised by the Ebonyi State chapter of the APC at the Abakaliki Township Stadium to endorse President Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
He described Ebonyi as a stronghold of the APC, dismissing reports suggesting political tension in the state, and reaffirmed the party’s support for Governor Francis Nwifuru’s second-term bid.
According to him, ongoing infrastructure projects in the South-East, driven largely through the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, demonstrate the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to the region.
He said there was no longer any basis for claims of marginalisation, noting that several federal projects are currently ongoing across the zone.
“Ebonyi is truly an APC state. I will go back and report to Mr President what I have seen here,” he said.
“The mobilisation was massive and unprecedented. There is no more marginalisation of the South-East as the President has awarded several projects across the region and the country.”
Yilwatda also dismissed speculation that Ebonyi State had been ceded politically to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the APC remains firmly in control.
He added that the President fully supports Governor Nwifuru and expressed confidence that the party would retain all its elective positions in the 2027 elections.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, said the entire South-East is politically aligned with President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
He added that the President has shown commitment to the region through major infrastructure projects, including road constructions valued at about N445 billion in Ebonyi State alone.
Former Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Martin Elechi, moved the motion for the endorsement of President Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate for 2027, while former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, seconded it.
Senator Emmanuel Agboti equally supported the motion.
On his part, Governor Nwifuru described President Tinubu as a “builder and transformer,” saying his administration has benefited significantly from federal appointments and infrastructure projects.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, who attended the event, said he came in solidarity with the Ebonyi State Governor, adding that although he belongs to APGA, he supports progressive governance and national development.
He also described his visit as a homecoming, recalling his earlier years in Ebonyi where his father worked at Nigercem Cement in Nkalagu.
The rally was attended by several dignitaries including Governors Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra), Minister of Works David Umahi, Deputy Governor of Enugu State Ifeanyi Ossai, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Pius Anyim, among others.
