2027: Accord Party Presents 27 Lagos Candidates, Backs Olawepo-Hashim for President

The Lagos State chapter of the Accord Party has unveiled its candidates for the 2027 general elections, presenting a governorship candidate, three senatorial candidates and other contenders for legislative positions, while reaffirming the party’s support for Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as its presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The party said the move signals its readiness to challenge the dominance of established political parties in Lagos and offer voters an alternative platform ahead of the elections.

At a ceremony held in Lagos, the party issued Certificates of Return to its candidates, including its governorship flag bearer, Sowore Otitoloju Robert, candidates for the three senatorial districts, House of Representatives aspirants and Lagos State House of Assembly contenders.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State Chairman of the Accord Party, Dele Oladeji, said the presentation of certificates officially confirmed the emergence of the party’s candidates for the 2027 elections and marked the commencement of its electoral campaign activities.

Oladeji, who is also the party’s candidate for Lagos West Senatorial District, said the event was not only meant to ratify the candidates’ emergence but also to communicate the party’s vision and ideology to Lagos residents.

“Today is significant because it is an affirmation of the candidates of the Accord Party in Lagos State for the 2027 general election. We are issuing Certificates of Return and dedicating them as the party’s candidates for the forthcoming election,” Oladeji said.

He explained that the party’s ideology is rooted in welfare-oriented governance, social justice and equity, stressing that its focus would be on improving citizens’ welfare, ensuring security and guaranteeing the safety of lives and property.

He said that the party offering Lagos residents an alternative political platform founded on social justice, equity and welfare-oriented governance, adding that its priorities include improving citizens’ welfare, strengthening security and protecting lives and property.

“Lagosians have been clamouring for change and have expressed dissatisfaction with the current political order. Accord Party stands distinctly different as a platform that can deliver the desired change,” he said.

The Accord Party’s Lagos Central Senatorial candidate, Solomon Oladimeji Wahab, said his decision to contest was driven by a desire to improve governance and ensure that citizens benefit from democratic dividends.

He called for greater accountability in government and urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the electoral process.

Wahab also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct transparent and credible elections that accurately reflect the wishes of voters.

Also speaking, the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Badagry Federal Constituency, Joseph Taiwo Jehoshaphat, pledged to address infrastructure deficits and youth unemployment in the constituency if elected.

He said attracting federal projects and development initiatives would be among his priorities.

The Accord Party candidate for Somolu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly election, Abisoye Obayon, said he joined the race to promote development and expand opportunities for residents of the constituency.

He expressed confidence that voters would support candidates with strong community ties and practical solutions to local challenges.

Meanwhile, the party’s Lagos East Senatorial candidate, Blessing Maduka-Sunday, called for increased participation of women in politics, describing the low representation of women in elective offices as a major challenge to inclusive governance.

Maduka-Sunday urged more women to seek elective positions and advocated policies that promote women empowerment, poverty reduction and wealth creation.

The Accord Party presented a total of 27 candidates for various elective positions, including the governorship seat, three senatorial districts, House of Representatives constituencies and State House of Assembly seats.

Party leaders said the unveiling marked the beginning of preparations for the 2027 general elections and expressed confidence that the party would provide Lagos voters with a credible political alternative.
