Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi state has dismissed reports linking him to plans of becoming the running mate of Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 general elections.
He described the claims as false and speculative.
The governor’s reaction followed social media claims suggesting that he was being considered for a vice-presidential slot on a Jonathan-led ticket under a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The speculation intensified after a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki on Saturday announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election at a special national convention in Abuja. Although the former president was absent, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.
Responding to the reports in a post on X, Mohammed firmly denied any such political arrangement and clarified his current ambition.
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” he stated.
He further urged the public to disregard the speculation, insisting there was no truth to claims that he intended to abandon his current political path.
“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate,” the governor added.
Mohammed stressed that his political direction remains unchanged, amid growing realignments and heightened speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
