INEC Declares Oyebanji Winner Of Ekiti Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner after polling a total of 319,224 votes.

According to the results declared by the electoral body, Oyebanji won in all 16 local government areas of the state.

The governor defeated his closest rival, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 40,543 votes.

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oluwadare Bejide, came third in the race with a total of 12,872 votes.

Oyebanji strongest hold included the state capital, Ado Ekiti, and rural councils such as Moba and Ekiti East.

His biggest haul came from Ado Ekiti, where he secured 38,026 votes, nearly ten times the PDP’s 3,817 votes.

Other major areas of victory included Irepodun/Ifelodun (29,278), Ekiti West (28,258), Ikole (26,508) and Ekiti East (26,359).

While the APC dominated most councils, Ikere LGA, where PDP candidate Wole Oluyede comes from, produced the closest contest of the election.

The margin of just 1,224 votes represented the narrowest gap between the two leading parties anywhere in the state. Despite this, the governor emerged victorious.

Oyebanji made history in the state as the first governor to be re-elected back-to-back since 1999
