“Abia Can’t Be Another Lagos in 15 Years” – Gov. Otti Opens Up on State’s Economic Vision

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said his administration is not aiming to turn the state into a mega city like Lagos within the next 15 years but is instead focused on building a strong and competitive economy that can attract businesses and investments.

Speaking at the Invest Lagos 3.0 forum, Otti argued that Nigeria’s economic growth should not be concentrated in Lagos alone, stressing that other states must also develop their economic potential to reduce pressure on the country’s commercial capital.

The governor commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for providing a platform where states can showcase investment opportunities and attract investors.

According to Otti, while Lagos remains Nigeria’s leading commercial hub, the country would benefit from having multiple thriving economic centres.

He noted that Abia may not attain Lagos’ mega-city status in the next decade or more, but the state can position itself to take advantage of opportunities that Lagos is unable to accommodate.

Otti highlighted ongoing reforms in Aba, the state’s commercial centre, claiming that the city now enjoys uninterrupted electricity supply. He also revealed that the Ariaria International Market has been transformed into a 24-hour market to boost trade and productivity.

The governor said his administration remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment through improved infrastructure, stable power supply and investor-friendly policies.

He added that stronger state economies across Nigeria would encourage balanced national development and reduce the burden currently placed on Lagos.
