Abia Police Arrest 17 Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms in Statewide Crackdown

The Police Command in Abia State has arrested 17 suspected cultists in a coordinated security operation aimed at curbing rising cult-related violence and criminal activities across parts of the state.

The operation, carried out by operatives of the Abia State Police Command, also led to the recovery of firearms and other dangerous weapons allegedly used by the suspects.

Security sources confirmed that the arrests were made following intelligence-driven raids in identified black spots, particularly in Aba and surrounding communities where cult-related clashes had reportedly increased in recent weeks.

Police operatives stormed several suspected hideouts, leading to the arrest of the 17 individuals believed to be connected to rival cult groups involved in violent confrontations.

During the operation, officers recovered several items, including firearms, ammunition, cutlasses, and other weapons suspected to have been used for attacks and intimidation. Authorities say the recovered items point to ongoing preparations for violent engagements between rival groups.

The Police Command reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and order in the state, warning that cultism and violent crime would not be tolerated.

Security officials further stated that the operation forms part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and prevent further breakdown of law and order in affected communities.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to maintain public safety.

According to the police, the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and are expected to be charged to court upon completion of preliminary inquiries.

The Command emphasized that efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals linked to cult activities in the state.
