Suspected terrorists have again attacked communities in Isin and Ifelodun LGA of Kwara state, abducting at least 20 residents and killing one person during coordinated night raids.
The attacks, which reportedly occurred simultaneously at about 10 p.m. on Thursday, sparked tension across the affected communities as gunmen stormed the areas and whisked away several residents.
Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said he could only verify the abduction of two persons in Gaa-Alla community.
“I can only confirm that in Gaa-Alla community, two people were abducted and that the police, in conjunction with the military and forest guards, are on the trail of the assailants,” the police commissioner said.
However, sources within the communities disclosed that the scale of the attacks was far greater, with several residents abducted across the affected locations.
According to a source, at least two persons were kidnapped in Gaa-Alla, while the number of victims taken from Gaa Oke Abba was yet to be fully determined as efforts continued to assess the impact of the attack.
The attack on Famole community reportedly turned deadly after some residents engaged the attackers in a gun battle, leading to the death of one person.
“The bandits’ attack on Famole community resulted in one fatality after an exchange of gunfire,” a community source disclosed.
Security agencies, including the police, military and local forest guards, have since intensified efforts to track down the attackers and rescue the abducted victims.
