An Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo has sentenced Apostle Williams Okon Bassey of Mount Zion Lighthouse Full Gospel Church to 49 years imprisonment after finding him guilty of repeatedly s+xually ab¥sing and impregnating his daughter.
Justice Bassey delivered the judgment on June 10, 2026. The pastor was arrested in November 2019 following allegations of inc+st and r@pe.
According to the victim, the abuse began when she was approximately 13 years old and continued over a period of time, resulting in three pregnancies.
She alleged that her father often demanded s+x before providing money for her education and other personal needs.
During investigation, Bassey admitted to having s+xual relations with his daughter, though he claimed it began when she was 16 years old.
He also acknowledged that the relationship led to multiple pregnancies, which were subsequently terminated.
The court convicted him on the charges and handed down a 49-year prison sentence.
