
Damboa, Borno State – The Nigerian Army has arrested and detained a soldier following the accidental shooting of a fellow serviceman at a military defensive position in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to military sources, the incident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Sierra 7, a military formation within the Damboa axis.
The soldier reportedly discharged his weapon negligently, resulting in a gunshot injury to a colleague. The injured soldier was immediately provided with first aid before being evacuated to a military medical facility for further treatment.
Sources disclosed that the wounded personnel is currently receiving medical attention, while the soldier responsible for the accidental discharge has been disarmed and placed under detention pending the outcome of an investigation.
Military authorities have commenced a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the exact cause of the accidental shooting and establish whether there were breaches of operational safety procedures.
