Gunmen believed to be Lakurawa killer squad have reportedly unleashed terror on the people of Fasken Rafi Village in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Sunday, killing no fewer than 20 people.
The police authority in the state had yet to confirm the report.
The state police command’s spokesman did not respond to calls made to his phone and did not respond to messages made to his WhatsApp up to the time of filling this report.
A source close to the state government however confirmed the incident as he said the Kebbi State Government expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended its condolences to the families of the victims and residents of the affected community.
He stated that a high-powered delegation on a condolence visit led by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, assured residents of the government’s commitment to tackling banditry and other security challenges across the state.
The source said additional security personnel and operational resources would be deployed to the area to restore peace and prevent further attacks.
