ENUGU, NIGERIA — A group of women in Elugwu Akwu community, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, have staged a protest against the growing presence of alleged sex workers in their area, accusing them of contributing to family instability and social problems within the community.
The women, who took to the streets carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, expressed concerns that the activities of the sex workers were negatively affecting marriages and influencing young men in the community.
According to the protesters, several married men and youths have become increasingly involved with the women, leading to disputes in homes and strained family relationships. The demonstrators claimed that many husbands now spend significant amounts of time and money on the alleged sex workers, leaving their families neglected.
Speaking during the protest, some of the women called on traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, and government authorities to intervene and address the situation before it escalates further.
The protesters maintained that their action was aimed at protecting family values and preserving the moral standards of the community. They urged authorities to investigate the allegations and take appropriate measures to restore peace and order.
