Katsina, Nigeria — The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all Point of Sale (POS) businesses and commercial phone charging centres operating in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas as part of intensified efforts to combat insecurity in the state.
The directive was announced by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda following an emergency security meeting with security agencies, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders. The move forms part of a broader security strategy aimed at disrupting the activities of bandits and criminal networks operating within the affected communities.
According to the state government, intelligence reports revealed that some POS outlets and commercial phone charging centres were allegedly being used by criminal elements to facilitate communication, financial transactions, and other activities linked to insecurity.
As part of the new security measures, authorities have also imposed a ban on the use of motorcycles in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas. Security officials believe motorcycles are frequently used by bandits and kidnappers to carry out attacks and evade law enforcement operations.
In addition, the government announced restrictions on the sale, purchase, transportation, and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans across the state. Officials said the measure is intended to prevent fuel supplies from reaching criminal hideouts and camps.
Governor Radda emphasized that the safety of residents remains the administration’s top priority and urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing operations against criminal groups.
He warned that anyone found violating the new directives would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law.
