The Peoples Democratic Party has won all the chairmanship seats in the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State following the council election conducted by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission.
The party also won all the 226 councillorship seats across the wards in the state.
The final results were announced late on Monday, June 15, after the conclusion of the outstanding election in Numan Local Government Area, which had been postponed from Saturday when polls were held in the other 20 local government areas.
Announcing the result for Numan, the electoral officer, Sani Ahmed, declared the PDP candidate, Zidon Nzanyopwa, winner after he polled 19,174 votes.
Nzanyopwa defeated his closest rival, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bio Alexander, who scored 5,676 votes.
With the declaration of the Numan result, ADSIEC confirmed that the PDP had completed a clean sweep of all the 21 local government areas in the state.
The Chairman of ADSIEC, Mohammed Umar, while announcing the overall outcome in Yola, said PDP candidates won all chairmanship positions and all councillorship seats in the 226 wards.
Umar thanked residents of Adamawa State for turning out to exercise their voting rights and urged candidates and political parties that lost the election to accept the outcome in good faith.
The result means PDP leaders will control the third tier of government in Adamawa State, despite the state now being led by an APC governor.
The development follows the earlier defection of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri from the PDP to the APC.
However, the PDP chairmen-elect had already been endorsed as candidates for the council election before the governor’s defection earlier in the year.
