The footage, which has become central to the investigation, reportedly shows the suspect dropping off a Carrefour shopping bag at a luggage counter in a supermarket along Moi Avenue before walking away.

Inside the bag, security personnel later discovered a loaded Ceska pistol belonging to Administration Police Sergeant Amos Kimathi. The firearm had been hidden beneath fruits and left in its holster.

How police officer lost his pistol

The pistol had been reported stolen on May 25 after the officer allegedly lost it at a massage parlour along Muindi Mbingu Street in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

The discovery has raised fresh concerns among investigators, who are now trying to establish what happened to the missing bullets and whether the firearm was used while in the suspect’s possession.

Authorities have intensified efforts to identify the person seen on CCTV, describing the footage as a crucial lead in the case. A reward of KSh 50,000 has reportedly been offered to anyone who provides information that could help identify or locate the suspect.

As investigations continue, detectives are piecing together the events between the firearm’s disappearance and its recovery, hoping the CCTV images will unlock the mystery behind one of Nairobi’s most unusual gun theft cases in recent weeks.
