Police Launch Investigation After Woman Caught Filming Newborn Babies in Obosi Hospital

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged child trafficking incident following the arrest of a 37-year-old woman, identified as Anurika Nweme, at Divine Mercy Hospital along Eze Iweka Road, Awada, Obosi.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, police operatives attached to the Awada Divisional Headquarters rescued the suspect from an angry mob after she was apprehended under suspicious circumstances at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the suspect gained access to the hospital premises on the afternoon of June 23, 2026, dressed in attire resembling that of a nurse. She was reportedly seen secretly recording videos of newborn babies in the maternity ward.

When questioned by hospital staff and other individuals present, Nweme allegedly claimed to be an employee of the hospital. However, a subsequent verification by the hospital management revealed that she was not a member of staff.

The suspect has been taken into protective custody and is currently assisting investigators with efforts to identify and apprehend any possible accomplices connected to the incident.

The Anambra State Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further updates will be provided as developments unfold.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
