“I want to thank God for the years He gave me with my daughter. I was with her for 17 years. She was my only child. I had high hopes for her. Even today, I have not accepted that she is gone. I still do not believe it. I pray that God will give me strength through this journey.

I spoke to her on Saturday. There was a school event involving Form Four Blue, Purple, and Red classes. They were competing, and the winning class would enjoy a party. We were required to send KSh 500 for the celebration, and it was my brother who sent the money,” she recounted.

Wanjiru said she later followed up on the matter and learned that the school had indeed bought cake and soda for the celebration.

She noted that some parents attended the event, and it was during that time that her daughter borrowed a phone to call home.

“I received a call from an unfamiliar number and answered it. I heard my daughter’s voice. She greeted me and asked how we were doing at home. She told me she was doing well but missed me very much. I told her I missed her too. I encouraged her and told her it would not be long before they returned home in July.
