Media personality Daddy Freeze has stirred controversy online after commenting on the late Alexx Ekubo’s service of songs, where he criticised gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey and singer Mercy Chinwo over their conduct during the ceremony.
Daddy Freeze, who initially faced backlash for allegedly not following the dress code at the event, later issued an apology before sharing his observations about how the funeral was conducted.
He claimed that the atmosphere at the service of songs was turned into what he described as a “concert,” particularly pointing to Mercy Chinwo’s musical performance, which he felt was too energetic for a solemn occasion. According to him, funerals should be marked by hymns and more subdued worship songs.
He also questioned Nathaniel Bassey’s role at the event, stating that the gospel singer mentioned he did not personally know Alexx Ekubo, although others present did. Daddy Freeze added that there had been plans to visit the late actor in the hospital for prayers and worship, but Ekubo reportedly passed away before the visit could take place.
Expressing further disappointment, Daddy Freeze criticised Bassey’s well-known trumpet performance and preaching during the event, arguing that such expressions were inappropriate given the circumstances. He also questioned the effectiveness of public declarations of miracles, asking why prayers could not have changed the outcome.
