Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development Solomon Dalung has argued that unlike President Bola Tinubu, late former President Muhammadu Buhari made measurable progress in restoring government authority over territories previously held by Boko Haram insurgents.

Speaking in a television interview on Friday, Dalung alleged that the Tinubu administration has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians on security matters.

He drew a contrast between the two leaders, acknowledging that while both came into office with high public expectations, Buhari’s tenure produced more tangible security outcomes particularly in the Northeast, where approximately 24 local government areas had fallen under Boko Haram control before being reclaimed under his watch.

Dalung said this achievement remains a significant part of Buhari’s legacy, even accounting for the security challenges that emerged later in his administration, and insisted that Tinubu’s performance on security cannot be favourably compared to that of his predecessor.
