LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Police Command has announced the death of its Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Finance and Administration, Khan Salihu.
The senior police officer reportedly passed away on Sunday after a brief illness, sending shockwaves through the command and the wider policing community.
According to reports, DCP Salihu had returned from a mosque and complained of fatigue before requesting permission to rest at home. Sources disclosed that his condition later deteriorated, prompting his transfer to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Command described the late officer as a dedicated and highly respected member of the Nigeria Police Force whose service was marked by professionalism, discipline, and integrity.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that DCP Salihu made significant contributions to the administration and operational effectiveness of the Lagos State Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and colleagues, describing his passing as a painful loss to the police family.
“DCP Khan Salihu was a committed officer whose dedication to duty, leadership qualities, and administrative expertise greatly impacted the command. His legacy of service and professionalism will remain an inspiration to officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said.
The command also urged officers and well-wishers to keep the family of the deceased in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult period.
DCP Salihu served in various capacities throughout his policing career and was widely regarded as an experienced administrator and mentor. His death comes as a significant loss to the Lagos State Police Command and the Nigeria Police Force at large.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in accordance with Islamic rites.
