Drama as man refuses to leave bank branch over alleged ₦5m stuck funds, demands answers from staff

A man caused commotion at a Guaranty Trust Bank Guaranty Trust Bank branch on CMD Road on Monday after alleging the bank withheld his ₦5 million for two weeks, drawing attention from customers and staff inside the banking hall.

Dispute over alleged delayed funds

The situation reportedly escalated when the customer confronted bank officials inside the branch, insisting he had been unable to access his funds despite repeated attempts.

Eyewitnesses said he appeared visibly upset, attracting attention from other customers who paused transactions to observe the incident.

During the confrontation, the man insisted he would not leave the banking hall until his complaint was addressed. He said:

You want to seize my phone? Madam, you want to seize my phone? If you like, call God. I’m not leaving here today until you answer me and return my 5 million naira.”

Bank staff were seen attempting to calm the situation, while other customers continued their transactions cautiously.

The reason for the alleged delay was not immediately confirmed at the time of reporting by officials.

Growing tension in banking hall

The incident has added to ongoing conversations about customer service experiences in financial institutions, particularly regarding transaction delays and dispute resolution.

Similar cases have surfaced online, triggering debates about accountability and communication between banks and customers.

Although order was eventually restored, it remained unclear whether the matter had been resolved or if the customer received clarity on his claim.

Many customers were left discussing their experiences after leaving the branch.
