The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the state governorship election held on Saturday, 20 June, 2026.
According to INEC, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes across the state’s 16 local government areas.
He defeated his closest rival, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) who polled 40,533 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who scored 12,872 votes.
Oyebanji secured victory across all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State, according to results of the poll.
The feat makes him only the second candidate in the state’s history to achieve a clean sweep in a governorship election.
The first was Ayodele Fayose, who won all 16 LGAs in 2014 when he defeated the then incumbent Governor, Kayode Fayemi.
Upon his declaration as winner later of the poll, Oyebanji is now the first governor of the state to win a re-election while in office.
In the election, PDP came a distant second. It did very well in Ikere Local Government, where its flag bearer, Oluyede, comes from.
ADC, though third, had a dismal performance. Its candidate, Dr Abejide, lost in Ilawe, his local government area.
