The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared winners in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, and Ondo South Senatorial District by-elections held on Saturday.
In Rivers State, INEC declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Olaka Nwogu, winner of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Rosemary Ogu, announced that Nwogu polled 47,961 votes to defeat candidates of three other political parties that participated in the exercise.
According to the results, Douglas Beke Fabeke of the Action Alliance scored 1,175 votes, Osarosaka Ebenezer of the All Progressives Congress polled 1,647 votes, while Sam Bariboa of the Labour Party scored 367 votes.
The election was contested by four political parties — PDP, APC, LP and AA.
Nwogu will replace the former occupant of the seat, Senator Barinada Mpigi, who died in office on February 19, 2026.
In Kano State, INEC declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Rabiu Shuaibu, winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election.
The Returning Officer, Professor Umar Sani of Bayero University, Kano, announced the result after collation of votes from polling units within the constituency.
Sani said Shuaibu polled 35,356 votes to defeat Lawal Garba-Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement, who scored 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahaya-Muhammad of the Labour Party, who garnered 98 votes.
Declaring the result, the Returning Officer said, “The election was contested. That Rabiu Shuaibu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
In Ondo State, INEC declared Professor Dayo Faduyile of the APC winner of the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election.
The Returning Officer, Professor Gbenga Solomon-Ibileye, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, announced the result on Sunday at the collation centre in Okitipupa Local Government Area.
Solomon-Ibileye said Faduyile polled 68,474 votes to emerge winner.
He said Adeolu Akinwunmi of the Allied Peoples Movement came second with 1,411 votes, while Adesanya Olaoluwa of the Action Peoples Party and Clement Funso-Nejo of the Boot Party scored 213 and 70 votes respectively.
According to the Returning Officer, total votes cast stood at 70,770, while 602 votes were rejected.
The election was held across six local government areas: Okitipupa, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Irele, Odigbo and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo.
The by-election followed the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Speaking after the Ondo South poll, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Mutiu Agboke, described the exercise as a test run for the 2027 general elections.
Agboke said minor challenges recorded during the by-election would help the commission improve future elections.
“The results of the election reflected the people’s voice and thank God that all INEC staff who went to the riverine came back safely and no negative report anywhere,” he said.
The declarations across Rivers, Kano and Ondo followed the conclusion of collation in the affected constituencies, with INEC returning the respective winners elected in accordance with electoral guidelines.
