Family announces burial rites for Enugu Commissioner’s mother

The family of the Enugu State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, has announced the burial arrangements for their matriarch, Laurita Nwakaego Agbo (née Ortuanya), who died at the age of 73.

The matriarch of the Agbo died on May 8, 2026 at the Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu, Enugu State, following a brief illness.

According to the burial programme, a wake and Mass will be held by 6pm on July 31, 2026 at the family compound in Amufi Village, Achara Ohodo, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State.

In an invitation released by the family, the late matriarch will be laid to rest on August 1, 2026 after a funeral Mass at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ohodo, Enugu State.

After the funeral Mass scheduled for 11am, interment will take place at the family compound and a reception for guests will follow at the Federal Polytechnic field, Ohodo.

A thanksgiving Mass will be held on August 2, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Achara Ohodo, beginning at 8am.Born into the Ortuanya family, Mrs. Agbo was widely regarded as a respected community leader and a source of inspiration in Amufi Village and the wider Ohodo community.

She was also recognised as a devoted Catholic and philanthropist whose contributions to community development and the welfare of others earned her admiration from many.

Following her death, the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and other associations and colleagues of the Enugu State Commissioner for Information and Communication paid tribute to her.They described her as a humble and generous woman who lived a life of service.

The Agbo family had earlier expressed appreciation to friends, associates, and well-wishers for their prayers and support following her passing and has now invited the public to join them in celebrating her life.
