How did Helena Masura die?

While paying tribute to Helena, one of her daughters revealed that her mother passed away while sitting at home waiting for a meal to be served.

She narrated that her mother had just taken a bath and was patiently waiting for her caregiver to finish preparing food when she peacefully passed away.

“It pleased the Lord to call His servant, Helena Zakayo Masura, to eternal rest. She passed away at her home in Soeto after taking a bath and while a meal was being prepared for her. She was in the company of her daughter-in-law Lilian Saria, her grandchild and her caregiver, Jesca Kimori,” she said.

The family also announced that the 121-year-old was survived by five children, 60 grandchildren, 167 great-grandchildren and 41 great-great-grandchildren.

One of her granddaughters thanked God for allowing Helena to live long enough to see her great-great-grandchildren.

She recalled how her grandmother raised the family in a prayerful environment, noting that every morning she would begin her day with the Lord’s Prayer before attending to her daily activities.

“As a family, we thank God for the gift of a mother, grandmother, caregiver, comforter and loving woman who cared deeply for us. She was a woman of prayer and lived a simple life. She strongly believed in hard work. People often say that children raised by their grandmothers become lazy. That was never the case with our grandmother. She taught us how a mother should provide for her family,” she shared.

Helena was remembered as a hardworking woman who encouraged her children to venture into farming regardless of their professions.

Her family said that even in her later years, she remained passionate about farming and continued selling maize to her customers despite her advanced age.

“She would tell us, ‘Go to the farm and cultivate the land for your children.’ If you look at the photos we shared, you will see that even as recently as 2023, she was still shelling maize. The last maize she shelled was harvested during that season.

“Whenever I visited her, she would always ask, ‘Do you have a farm? What have you planted? Have you harvested?’ To her, that was a sign of responsibility and good values. She believed that everyone should have something of their own so that they could be self-reliant,” noted Helena’s grandchild.
