The Directorate of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), has secured the conviction of five defendants involved in the Kwara State massacre.
Oyedepo made the revelation following the successful prosecution of the suspects before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Oyedepo, alongside two other prosecutors from the Directorate, diligently prosecuted the case, resulting in the conviction of all five defendants on multiple counts.
In her judgment, Justice Binta Nyako sentenced each of the convicted persons to 25 years imprisonment on Counts 1 and 2, seven years imprisonment on Count 3 and 20 years imprisonment on Count 4.
The court ordered that all sentences shall run concurrently.
In addition to the convictions, the court granted an order for the forfeiture of 15 AK-103 rifles and 1,046 rounds of live ammunition recovered in connection with the offences.
The successful prosecution underscores the unwavering commitment of the Federal Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, to ensuring accountability, combating violent crimes, and upholding the rule of law in Nigeria.
A statement by the DPPF said the conviction represents another significant step in the administration of criminal justice and the ongoing efforts to protect the lives and security of all Nigerians.
