LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, identified as Onipede Tajudeen Ojo, for allegedly stealing a police officer’s bag containing official and personal belongings and using some of the items to impersonate a police officer.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly stole a bag belonging to a serving police officer. The stolen items included a camouflage uniform, warrant card, mobile phone, ATM card, and other personal effects.
Police authorities said Ojo subsequently wore the stolen camouflage uniform and attempted to pass himself off as a legitimate police officer, raising concerns about public safety and the misuse of security-related materials.
His alleged impersonation was uncovered after members of the public became suspicious of his conduct and questioned his identity. The situation reportedly led to the discovery that he was not a genuine police officer, after which he was apprehended and handed over to law enforcement authorities.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Police Command said the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the theft and impersonation.
The command noted that the recovered items are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation and assured the public that anyone found guilty of impersonating law enforcement personnel would face the full weight of the law.
