One young boy was forced to find alternative ways to raise money for his education to prevent his academic journey from coming to an abrupt end.

Samuel, from Naguro Village in Bahi District, turned to menial jobs to fund his education following a heartbreaking family situation.

He and his mother were abandoned by his father, leaving them to fend for themselves and meet their daily needs.

His story went viral after details of his struggles emerged online, touching the hearts of well-wishers who later surprised him with gifts.

Which school does Samuel go to?

“This week, we returned to Naguro Village in Bahi District to visit Samuel, a Form One student at Bahi B Secondary School, who has been paying for his own school needs after his father abandoned the family. His situation forced him to work as a casual labourer on farms to earn money for essential school supplies, as he firmly believes that education is the key to changing his life.

After the June examination results were released and Samuel ranked fourth out of 118 students, we decided to support him by providing school supplies, including exercise books, a school uniform (shirt and trousers), shoes, and a school bag, so that he could have more time to focus on his studies,” a post read.

He added that the support would enable him to study harder and achieve his goals, as it had boosted his confidence.

“The trousers I wear were handed down to me by my cousin, who finished high school a year ago. With the new school uniform and stationery, I am ready for the future. I will work hard and do my best,” he said.

Meanwhile, Samuel’s mother said she had been deeply troubled by her son’s situation, especially seeing him work as a casual labourer on farms to meet his school needs.

She said the situation had caused her immense sadness and emotional pain.

“I felt bad for my son because I did not have money to buy him a new school uniform or provide for his other needs. I was constantly worried, but now I am happy because my mind will be more at peace, knowing that my son can continue with his education. May God bless the well-wishers. He looks very smart, and I am very happy,” she said.
