A four-storey building under construction has collapsed along the Odili Road axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The building, which eyewitnesses described as either a proposed hotel or shopping complex, reportedly collapsed in the mid-morning hours on Wednesday, causing panic among residents and workers in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders and local volunteers were intensifying efforts to clear the debris and search for persons who may have been trapped beneath the rubble.
Eyewitnesses said the structure was already at an advanced stage of construction before the sudden collapse. However, the exact cause of the incident remains unknown.
Although no victim had been recovered at the time of this report, witnesses insisted that some persons were inside the building when it collapsed, raising fears that people may still be trapped.
Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause of the collapse and account for all persons believed to have been on the site.
