Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has commended parents and caregivers across Nigeria and the world for their sacrifices, dedication and commitment to raising future generations.
Tinubu made the commendation on Monday, 1 June, 2026 in a message marking the 2026 Global Day of Parents, where she highlighted the critical role of parents in shaping society and called for stronger support systems for families. She noted that this year’s theme, “Together for Parents,” underscores the need for collective action in supporting parents as they nurture and guide children.
“On this Global Day of Parents 2026, I celebrate and honour parents and caregivers across Nigeria and around the world for their love, sacrifices and commitment to raising the next generation,” she stated.
Furthermore, the First Lady stressed that parenting should not be undertaken in isolation, urging families, communities, institutions and governments to work together in raising responsible and compassionate children.
“The 2026 theme, ‘Together for Parents,’ reminds us that parents should not walk this journey alone. Families, communities, institutions and governments must continue to work together to support parents in nurturing children who are responsible, compassionate and equipped to contribute positively to society,” she said.
Meanwhile, Tinubu encouraged parents to remain committed to instilling discipline, good values and responsible behaviour in their children, noting that such efforts are essential to building a brighter future for Nigeria.
“I encourage all parents to continue leading with love, patience, discipline and good values, while guiding our children to make responsible choices that will secure a brighter future for themselves and for Nigeria,” she added.
She concluded by extending goodwill to parents and caregivers worldwide on the occasion of the 2026 Global Day of Parents.
