“Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He failed badly on two very important subjects- IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him well!”
His comments come soon after Reuters reported, citing an official source, that the embattled British PM could decide the next move in his political career as early as Monday, June 22.
Starmer has faced increasing calls to quit from within his own Labour Party after a series of political setbacks, including disappointing local election results and a sharp decline in public support. More than 70 Labour lawmakers publicly called for his resignation in May, while several ministerial aides also stepped down, intensifying pressure on his leadership.
The pressure has grown further in recent days after the parliamentary by-election victory of Andy Burnham, who is widely seen as the leading contender to replace Starmer. Burnham’s return to Westminster has fuelled speculation about a Labour leadership challenge, with several lawmakers and ministers urging Starmer to set a timetable for his departure.
Burnham has sought to position himself as an agent of change. Following his by-election victory earlier this week, he called for “fundamental change” in Britain and said voters had delivered a mandate for a new direction on the economy, immigration and industry.
