Good News…But Are We Really Feeling It? Nigeria’s Inflation Drops Slightly to 15.10%

Nigeria’s inflation rate eased a bit in January 2026, according to the (NBS). The latest Consumer Price Index shows a marginal decline to 15.10%, down from 15.15% in December 2025.

The data reveals a 3.8 percentage point drop in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), falling to 127.4 in January from 131.2 in December. Food inflation also slowed, coming in at 8.89%, down from 10.84% the previous month.

On a month-to-month basis, the headline inflation rate was -2.88%, indicating that the increase in average prices slowed compared to December’s 0.54% rise.

Despite this slight relief, many Nigerians continue to struggle with the high cost of living, leaving the question on everyone’s mind: is the disinflation truly easing the pinch in households?
