“He took ₦2k…” — Man shocked to discover price of padlock he sent worker to buy

A man has shared how he discovered that a worker kept part of the money he gave him to purchase a padlock, only realising the discrepancy after checking the item’s price himself.

According to the man, he handed the worker ₦10,000 to buy a padlock. A few minutes later, the worker returned with the item and gave him ₦1,000 as the remaining balance.

Believing the transaction was accurate, the man said he accepted both the padlock and the ₦1,000 change without questioning the cost.

However, he later decided to inquire about the price of the same padlock while shopping for another item.

Price check raises fresh questions

Recounting the experience, the man said, “I sent a worker to get padlocks for me. I gave him 10,000 Naira.” He explained that the worker returned shortly afterwards with the padlock and ₦1,000 as change.

He further stated, “Today I went to buy something and I decided to price the same padlock. Guess how much? I was told 7000 Naira! So this man pocketed 2000 Naira and gave me back 1000 Naira. Why he didn’t take all the 3k is what I don’t understand.”

Story sparks mixed reactions online

The man’s account has attracted attention on social media, with many users expressing surprise at the alleged incident.

Some commenters advised people to verify prices before sending others on errands, while others said the worker’s actions, if accurate, amounted to a breach of trust.

Others also noted that the account reflects the importance of transparency in everyday transactions, although the claims remain the man’s personal account of the incident.
