A Kenyan chef who once studied in Homa Bay is now heading the kitchen of one of Ethiopia’s leading restaurants, overseeing a team of 26 chefs and serving some of the world’s most influential leaders.

Chef Odi Omotto has built an impressive international culinary career that has taken him across continents, earning him a reputation as one of Kenya’s finest culinary exports.

Journalist Alex Chamwada told NGBREAKINGNEWS that today, Odi serves as the head chef at Marcus Addis, one of Ethiopia’s top restaurants.

He is responsible for creating menus, costing dishes and ensuring every meal meets the highest standards before it reaches diners.

His culinary expertise has placed him in the company of high-profile dignitaries, including President William Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and former ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“I’ve also served the presidents of South Africa and Mozambique, as well as the Italian Prime Minister,” he said with pride.

Despite his current success, Odi’s journey to the top was anything but ordinary. Having studied in Homa Bay, his life changed when he received a scholarship from the Dutch government to pursue culinary arts.

The opportunity opened doors that would eventually take him around the world. What followed was an extraordinary career spanning more than seven countries.

He worked in Qatar, Bahrain, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the United States, gaining valuable experience in diverse culinary environments before relocating to Ethiopia two years ago.

Each destination added a new layer to his expertise, exposing him to different cultures, cuisines and ways of life.

“Being a chef has really exposed and helped me open my mind because I have been to different countries and met very many different people,” he said.

As head chef, Odi’s responsibilities extend far beyond preparing meals. He develops, tests and costs menus before they are executed by his team, ensuring quality and consistency in every dish served.

Leading a team of 26 chefs requires discipline, creativity and strong leadership skills, qualities he has developed throughout his years of international experience.

“It is not an easy job as some may think. It needs a lot of discipline and dedication,” he explained.

From the classrooms of Homa Bay to the kitchens of world-class restaurants, Odi has steadily climbed the culinary ladder, serving global leaders while inspiring young Kenyans to pursue their ambitions beyond borders.

For the accomplished chef, every meal tells a story, and his own journey is one of determination, opportunity and excellence served one plate at a time.
