The Benue State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State, Alhaji Risku Mohammed, and another individual, Yakubu Isa, who were reportedly attacked and killed by unidentified gunmen.
The victims were said to have been returning from a security and peace meeting when they came under attack along the Okwudu–Ogoli Road in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state on Friday.
Confirming the incident, the Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, condemned the killings and described the attack as a criminal act capable of undermining ongoing efforts to promote peace and security in the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the police command assured residents that a full-scale investigation had been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack and bring those responsible to justice.
“The command strongly condemns this unfortunate incident and has deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the perpetrators. We remain committed to ensuring that those behind this heinous act are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
The police further urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
